Tribute

(Edna) June Cox Faubion

June Faubion, 102, of Boise, Idaho, passed away April 24, 2024 after recently celebrating her milestone birthday. She was born April 19, 1922 in Gooding, Idaho to Troy Preston and Elsie Octavia Cox.

She grew up in Gooding, Idaho and graduated from Gooding High School in 1940. Following graduation, she worked in Gooding for Dr. Fred Barrett. All nurses were called to war duty so in addition to being an office assistant and receptionist, she was pulled in as his “nurse” learning practical nursing for 5 years. After World War II, she moved to San Francisco where she was a nanny for a dentist and his family. She worked at the University of California Hospital, a teaching hospital, in the research division of the Dental College. She witnessed the very first graduating class of dental hygienists. From San Francisco she moved to Boise where she was employed as a medical secretary for Drs. Pittenger, Shaw and Mack. It was there she met Donald J. Faubion. They were married July 2, 1948.

June was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She spent 13 years as a volunteer for the St. Alphonsus Hospital Auxiliary mostly in the emergency department, was secretary of City Council of PTAs, worked on committees with the Eh-Capa Bareback Riders, Job’s Daughters, 4-H, and Girl Scouts. While raising children and managing Don’s business, June worked extensively with the Survivors of Wake, Guam and Cavite from 1948-2003. As the executive secretary, she organized annual conventions, reunions and helped put together the WigWam, the Wake Island Bulletin. The organization disbanded in 2003. After Don passed away, she volunteered at the VA Hospital.

June was an accomplished tennis player during her school years. She loved cooking, homemaking, entertaining, gardening, landscaping their yard, fishing alongside her husband and friends, traveling in their motorhome, volunteering, playing bridge, reading and BSU football. She was an avid fan. She and Don attended many local and away games. She watched them all on TV with her dogs dressed up in appropriate BSU attire on game day. Most of all she loved spending time with her family whenever possible.

June was preceded in death by her husband Don, her sister Ila Harkins (Twin Falls, ID), and her brother Carl Cox (Boise, ID). She is survived by her children Barbara (Dan) Hemmer, Caralee (Roger) Casey, both of Boise, ID, and Trish Smith of Hailey, ID. Her legacy is carried on by her grandchildren Casey (Joyce) Hemmer, Sean (Lindsay) Hemmer, Cory (Jennifer) Hemmer, Jennifer Casey (Andrew) Wilkin and 8 great grandchildren, all living in Boise. She also has 3 step grandchildren and their families, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Friday, May 3rd at 1:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served after.

Her family would like to thank all the staff from BrightStar (Summerset) who took care of mom for the past 2 years. She thrived there. Also, heartfelt thanks to the entire hospice staff at St. Lukes Hospice. You were invaluable.
