Arthur Wayne Garrison

Arthur Garrison, 90, of Boise passed away surrounded by family on September 14, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022 at Cloverdale Funeral Home.
Arthur was born in Fullerton, Nebraska on December 3, 1931, to Arthur Milton Garrison and Gertrude Kirkpatrick Garrison. He had humble beginnings and spent much of his childhood moving between Boise ID, Caldwell ID, and Yakima WA.
After graduating from Yakima High School in 1951, Arthur joined the US Navy and served four years from 1951 to 1955. He was immensely proud of his service and shared many stories of serving on the USS Kearsarge where he was an Airdale Mechanic for the VC3 Night Squadron. He also served as Commander of the VFW Post 9976 (now Capitol City Post 63) in 1961.
While he was assigned to Moffit Field in San Jose, CA he met his future wife Marilyn Georges at a folk dance in San Francisco. They married December 17, 1955 and were married over 66 years. Following the birth of their first son Donald in 1958, they moved to Boise where they had two more sons: Russell in 1960 and Terry in 1963.
In the fall of 1962, Arthur began his career as a US Postal Service Carrier. He was active in the NALC Branch 331 and served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years. He retired in May 1987 as a swing carrier.
Other than his marriage and his three sons, Arthur felt his greatest accomplishment was building the family cabin in Donnelly, Idaho. He spent many years enjoying the cabin and loved the many family gatherings there.
Arthur was involved in many other activities and groups over the years. Those included Capitol Square Dance group, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Arthur enjoyed photography and was a founding member and first Chairman of Idaho Centennial Art Group which was founded in 1990. He also collected Ceramic clowns and authored a book of poetry and thoughts.
Arthur is survived by his sons Donald (Charlotte) and Terry (Penny), seven grandchildren (Patrick, Tyler, Shawna, Adam, Melissa, Hollie, and Matthew), four great-grandchildren, brothers LV (LeEtta) Birkinbine and David (Haver) Birkinbine, and sister Minnie Ramon. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, son Russell Garrison, father Arthur M Garrison, mother Gertrude Kirkpatrick Birkinbine, sister Winnie Bridges and Brother Ricky Birkinbine.
