Tribute

Beryle Carolyn Arne Irzyk
February 13, 1914 – November 20, 2021

Beryle was born to hardworking and loving parents Della and Ralph Arne and raised on their homestead in central Oregon near the John Day River miles away from the small towns of Winlock, Fossil and Spray, Oregon. She passed peacefully on November 20, 2021 at Bright Star Home in Boise, Idaho.

She shared a very close bond with her older siblings, Grace, and John. They raised all their own food including a large bunch of both chickens for meat and eggs and turkeys. Beryle’s mother sold eggs clear to Portland via wagon and train. Beryle’s family put in a large garden and raised sheep and cattle which my mom herded on her favorite horse named Chub along with their loyal working cow dogs, with Tip being her favorite. Mom could shinny up the front leg of a horse when she was quite young. Her dad found her out in the barn sitting on one of the horses when she was only three! Mom’s family had both work and riding horses. They attended a one-room schoolhouse called the Cove school that was surrounded by their homestead land. They all rode their horses there and rested them in the barn her father had built. Most of the teachers who taught at the Cove school all boarded at my mom’s house. Beryle’s father was a county clerk, took care of all election notices, and delivered mail in a tan 1930 Model A Ford car with a rumble seat. He also married folks in their living room at the homestead house. Mom remembers ‘tee heeing’ in the corner with her sister at the bridal gatherings.

After finishing 8th grade school, mom went on to high school in Fossil a small town 20 miles away and boarded with Mrs. Duff all four years. Beryle went home occasionally on weekends and most holidays. Beryle’s dear mother passed away while she was a senior in high school. My mom stayed three years after graduating to help her father on the homestead and to help drive the mail route in the Model A Ford.

Beryle then went on to Nurse’s training in ’34 at The Dalles General Hospital where she became a Registered Nurse in 1938 and worked every department, and shift until she became a night charge nurse. Beryle saw amazing medical discoveries and miracles with Penicillin being the top one.

She worked about 10 years before meeting, falling in love, and marrying Tex Irzyk a wheat farmer living in Sherman County and farming for Jack and Mary Eva on their ranch. They married on September 11, 1944. Mom moved to the Eva ranch and loved every minute with her sweetheart for 56 years of farming and raising four children who had the best childhood home. Mrs. Eva was like a mother to Beryle and Tex and a grandmother to the children. Our family deeply mourned her passing in August of 1973.

Beryle and Tex were faithful members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Grass Valley Oregon. . In Boise, Cecile and Pat from St. Mark’s became their Eucharistic and spiritual ministers and a very close friendship ensued.

Twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren were welcomed into the family.

Beryle kept a bright and sparkling clean three-story ranch home and was an incredible ranch cook not only for her family but neighbors, relatives who might be visiting, and for all the hired hands through the years. Mom loved shopping for food almost as much as cooking! Beryle was one of many ranch wives who were anchors in our small farming and cattle raising county. She was always involved in her kid’s school days and programs and if any neighbor needed help my parents were there to lend a hand.

Beryle and Tex moved to Boise, Idaho in the fall of 2000 to a lovely retirement community and then in 2002 to a cozy two-bedroom apartment. Her beloved Tex passed away in November 2007 and her dear son Stephen passed in January of 2019. Tex and Beryle celebrated 63 years of marriage life together. Mom remained there till June of 2020 when she then moved to the lovely Bright Star Assisted Living till her passing.

Beryle was the best mom her kids could ever ask for and no truer friend could be found to all that knew her. We love you forever Mom! Pip Pip!

Our gratitude and sincere thanks to all the caring and loving staff that assisted mom at the Bright Star Home on Summerset and to the staff at Keystone Hospice that gave her timely support.
