I was a member of Betty Steglich's first fourth grade class at Roosevelt School. I will always remember walking into class the first day and being greeted by this absolutely beautiful woman who claimed to be our teacher! The class was huge, maybe 35 students, but Mrs. Steglich managed to keep control of some of the "busiest" boys in the school , while teaching us some fairly complex material. Music was her favorite subject. She had a beautiful voice and loved to encourage us to really sing out. She continued to teach us music through 5th and 6th grades. We always looked forward to that music period with Mrs. Steglich. She was fun, funny and would light up the room when she breezed in the door. Mrs. Steglich often mentioned she had a daughter my age, Kris, who she really wanted me to meet. By the time I reached 7th grade, my sister Lucy had already become good friends with Karen, so Kris and I naturally fell into step together and she became one of my very best friends. I adore all the Steglich women and appreciate your importance in my life. I am sorry to miss the services today as I am recovering from orthopedic surgery. Please know I am thinking of you, sending love your way and celebrating the life of your exceptional mother! Thank you for sharing her with so many of us!
