In loving Memory of Bobby (Butch) Leroy Whitman 

Bobby (Butch) Leroy Whitman 85 of Boise, ID passed away at home with his family at his side on October 17th, 2021. Butch was born in Walker, Kansas on April 23rd, 1936 to Rosa and Charles Whitman. Butch graduated Burns Union High School in 1954. He briefly attended Oregon Institute of Technology and played basketball.

Butch joined the Army in 1956 and served his six years until 1962. While serving in the Army he was stationed at Schofield Barracks where he played football. Butch was in the 25th Artillery Division. Butch settled into Burns, Oregon to be near family and joined the National Guard in 1972 for one year. With a strong love of the outdoors and animals he worked as a timber faller. Butch would protect animals while out in the woods. Butch worked with the mill until the mill closure happened in Burns, Oregon 1978.

Butch Whitman married Wilma Yarber on August 7th, 1966. They welcomed their first child, Shauna Lynn Whitman on December 11th, 1970. On November 2nd, 1972 they welcomed their son, Christopher Ryan Whitman into the world. Butch loved being a father more than anything. He was up to any new adventure with his family. Butch loved living life to fullest and surrounding himself around his wife, children and grandchildren. Butch was a man that asked for so little, but gave so much to the world. He is best known for his beautiful smile, contagious laugh, beautiful heart, and funny shirts and socks. 

Butch is survived by his wife Wilma Whitman of Boise Idaho. He is survived by his daughter Shauna Snow and her husband Wes Snow as well as his three grandchildren Sami, Grayson, and Quinn. He is survived by his son Chris Whitman and his grandchild Hailey May and her husband Dustin May and his soon to be great grandson Brodie.  He is survived by his brother Clinton Moss, Pete Johnson, and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa, Charles, and Ralph Moss, by his sisters Betty, Bonnie, and Bing, and by his grandson Jackson.  There will also be many animals greeting Butch at the Rainbow Bridge.

Memorial services will be held in Burns, Oregon. The date, time and venue will be later announced. 

Memorial donations may be made in Bobby (Butch) Whitman’s name to Best Friends Animal Society.
