George York

July 18, 1926 ~ September 30, 2018 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

George Franklin York peacefully slipped away September 30, 2018 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born July 18, 1926 in Linwood, KS, he was the third child of John and Neta York. While in school, George made “All State” in basketball two years in a row. George loved all sports including, but not limited to, the New York Yankees and Kansas City Chiefs.
George enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He served in WWII and was in the invasion of Okinawa.
Some of George’s favorite hobbies included: catfishing on the Snake River, halibut and salmon fishing in Alaska, bowling, and spending time at the horse track. He best friends were his cats Butterscotch and SamSam.
George retired from Boise Vault after 38 years. After retirement, George and Judy loved traveling to Maui, HI and to the Oregon Coast. He enjoyed playing cribbage with family and friends. He loved his garden.
George was preceded in death by his parents John and Neta, his brother Bill, sister Mallie, his first wife Barbara, second wife Judy, and two great granddaughters.
George is survived by his children April Harrison, Laurie Reed, Robert York, Tammy Zimmer and son-in-law Tim, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and one more on the way. George loved his children and grandchildren very much.
Services will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the VA Hospital.
