3 Flowers or Condolences have been shared with support of Jay's family - View on Tribute Wall
Jay Leon Manning was born on April 20, 1941 in Eastern Idaho to Horace and Sara Manning. He was the youngest of seven children. He passed peacefully on June 15, 2018 of natural causes. Growing up in Idaho, Jay found his love for wildlife. He adopted an orphaned deer at the age of ten who would follow him around on his bicycle. He graduated from Borah High school where he was a multi-varsity athlete in track (pole vaulting) and basketball. He was voted “Most Handsome” his senior year. In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Kessler. They welcomed two children Vikki (Trent) Kaylor and Chris Manning in their 14-year marriage. He would later marry Patricia Keenan and welcome a son, Brett (Lindsey) in 1980. Jay won several awards for his well-trained treeing hound dogs. He developed skills as a trapper and served as a guide for hunters in Idaho. He was always in search of the best fishing holes and hunting spots. He loved the outdoors and animals throughout his life, a passion he would pass onto his children and grandchildren. He was known to bring home frogs, turtles, and squirrels from his outdoor adventures to the delight of his kids. He was also an entrepreneur his whole life and started several businesses including a compact ironing board company and a construction company which his youngest son will now take over. He enjoyed working with wood and metal and made beautiful artwork for sale and for his family. Jay is survived by one sibling, 3 children and 7 grandchildren. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He brought them together on trips including rafting down the white waters of Hells Canyon, hunting trips, and to any place where the fish were biting. We are certain he is in heaven now looking for the perfect fishing hole. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life at Vicki’s residence, 578 Sly Fox, Meridian, ID 83646, immediately following the graveside service.
