Jeannette Rose Cook

August 4, 2019

Tribute

Jeannette passed on August 4th, 2019 at her care facility in Boise at the age of 89.  A caring and compassionate person of selfless character, she will be sadly missed by all who know and love her.

It was always a running joke in our family, that Mom, being the 5th born child out of 11 was a really good thing.  “At least you made it in the top 5!” we would say to her.  Mom always said having lots of siblings, you never lacked for a dance partner.  The small town of Randolph, Nebraska actually had a ballroom for dancing, and the Meyer family were very light on their feet.  After her marriage, the music continued, square dancing with Ace and Betty Kusler; ballroom dancing at 7 mile Dance Hall and the Miramar ballroom on Fairview Avenue.  Most anniversaries were celebrated with a night out dancing.

Mom was a very common sense, steady and resourceful person, well suited for many tasks.  She could teach, she could learn, and always, she could help you no matter what the problem.  Living in Yellowpine while Dad worked in the Stibnite Mine had to be a challenge for a gal from the rolling hills of Nebraska, but there she was, raising a young family and at one point also making meals in the cook shack for the miners.

One of the highlights of her working career as an LPN, along with various nursing homes, was in home care for Mrs. Oressa McCaslin of McCaslin Lumber Company of Boise.  Mrs. McCaslin had in home care 24/7 from effects of Alzheimer’s.

After Dad passed away in 1996, Mom worked to the age of 68, then retired and built a new home near Overland and Five Mile Roads, and carried on.  She joined the Over 40’s Dance Club, and could be found at the Eagles every Sunday night with friends, dancing the night away.

Mom also followed the Boise State Broncos, always decked out in blue and orange attire, watching all those games with good friend Sara Ewing and the rest of the gang.  Sara always said Mom knew her way around a kitchen and was good help to have around.

Moving to Valley View Independent Living in June of 2015, brought many more new friends, especially her dancing buddy, Vinny.  Many of you may have seen her dancing in the Valley View commercial on Channel 7 right before the evening news.

And finally Mom moved to The Bridge at Valley View where she resided for her final days.

Mom was a sympathetic ear to so many and always made time for her 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  She had a way of accepting those she loved and got so much pleasure out of hearing what her family had been up to; we loved to share our stories with her.  It was the goal of any family get together to make her laugh, she would laugh until she wiped her tears away….this was what we loved the most and one of the many things we will miss.

Funeral services will be conducted for Jeannette on Saturday, August 10th, in the Gibson Chapel of Cloverdale Funeral Home beginning with a viewing at 9am and formal services at 10am.  A graveside service at Meridian cemetery will immediately follow.
