Jerald Holsinger

December 19, 1945 ~ June 7, 2019 (age 73)


Jerald Dean Holsinger, age 73 died after a long struggle with many health issues on June 7, 2019 in Surprise, Arizona.  He was born on December 19, 1945 in Twin Falls, Idaho to L.D. and Vesse Holsinger.  When he was 6 years old his mother Vesse passed away of a stroke near Christmas.  His father later remarried Betty Shortridge with three daughters from her side making a family of seven.   After high school, he went to serve for his church as a missionary to Liverpool, England for two years.  Afterwards, he worked and found a way to advance his education in school.   He studied to get his bacholor's degree in BYU to which is where he met his soon to be wife Lauralie where they become the best of friends. In 1977 he married Lauralie Baker in the Idaho Falls Temple.  Jerald or Jerry, which everyone called him, was a longtime Elementary teacher. He loved teaching the 3rd grade.  He taught 3rd grade for nearly 30 years from 10 years in Idaho to 20 years or so overseas.   He started teaching in Emmett, Idaho and then took his family to the Philippines to teach for the Department of the Defense School or DODDS on the San Miguel Army base for four wonderful years.  In June 15, 1991 the family was forced to evacuate due to Mount Pinatubo erupting and having a Super Typhoon in the Philippines and were moved to Okinawa, Japan where he continued to teach 3rd grade for nearly 16 or more amazing years.  
In Okinawa, he was 3rd grade teacher at Kadena Elementary School on the Kadena Air Force base.  Along the way, he grew and blessed to get to know and have for the rest of his life many dear friends and learn much about the cultures around him.  He was blessed to be an influence in many ways from teaching in his schooling profession to his various charitable services that he did in his daily endeavors.   He retired in 2009 to where he and his wife Lauralie moved to Surprise, Arizona when he retired.  He is survived by his wife Lauralie, sons,  Eric (Paul) and Benjamin Holsinger who live in Boise, Idaho,  daughter Amy Workman and son, Michael who both live in Surprise, Arizona.    The twins, John who lives in Pennsylvania and Jared who lives in Portland. He has two grand children Brian and Sariah Workman.  His brothers David and James Holsinger, and his sister Linda Hill live in Boise. His brother Donald Holsinger lives Provo and sister Sheran Holsinger lives in Kent, Washington.  He joins his sister, Jeanette Wokajance who proceeded him in death. He loved music, art, catching lizards, admiring the beauty of the Earth including sunflower or flowers, nature, and was strong advocate of peace, not violence..  He was strong loving, honorable father / caring husband / thoughtful man, an extraordinary teacher to so many around him in all the countless years he taught where ever he was to so many children who loved to walk up to him and give him appreciation (the children loved the way he taught, cared / worked hard to help learn more in life, and the "Mr. Holsinger's Cash - Free Days Earned" - when they worked so hard at school, he was dearly beloved by many teaching staff and dear noble friends, and always brought a positive influence to where ever he was to which he highly respected and valued all those he had the honor in meeting.  Funeral services will be held in Surprise, Arizona at his local church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints)  at  6:30 p.m. on Friday June 14 and then a graveside service will be held at the Cloverdale Funeral Cemetery Wednesday, June 19th in Boise, Idaho at 11:00 a.m.  He will be dearly missed, but always well thought of as one that saw the best and beautiful of things.
