Joseph Roy Theriot III

March 28, 1949 ~ January 12, 2018 (age 68)

Obituary and Memorial Service for Joseph Roy Theriot III and Terri Lynn (Lynca) Theriot

This joint obituary is an intentional reflection of the team that Roy and Terri were.

Terri Lynn (Lynca) Theriot preceded her husband upon entering and leaving this world. Born August 2, 1948 in Los Angeles, the daughter of Donald Angier, Sr., and Pegge (Brin) Angier, Terri was raised in the San Fernando Valley, CA. She graduated from Birmingham High School and attended Pierce College, both in the San Fernando Valley. She worked for years in personnel and performed administrative work for various companies.

Joseph was born March 28, 1949, in Santa Monica, CA, the son of Joseph Roy Theriot, Jr., and Annette (Rawls) Theriot, and he was raised in Pacific Palisades, CA. He graduated from Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, CA. Joseph was known by his middle name, Roy, by the majority of friends and family. He was also fondly referred to by his childhood pet name of “Teebo” by family members in California and Louisiana (where many of his family and dear friends reside). Roy joined the Marines and in 1969, he was deployed to serve his country in Vietnam. After he returned to the U.S., Roy worked for years as an auto mechanic, and he owned his own shop at one time.

Much of the couple’s lives were characterized by their religious faith. Their friend Tom Hooper, a pastor, introduced them to the Bible Tabernacle in Venice Beach, CA. Later, when Roy and Terri were in their early 30s, they moved with their daughter, Tracee Theriot, to Lake Tahoe. There, they became members of the Tahoe Christian Center. They were proud to participate in that community, and they served as Vacation Bible School teachers through the church.

After several years in Lake Tahoe, the couple moved to Boise, ID, to attend Boise Bible College, from which they graduated with honors. The couple then went on to attain a variety of degrees and honors from Boise State University, Walla Walla University in Washington, and Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, ID. They both achieved a Master of Social Work degree. Roy even went on to attain a nursing degree from Northwest Nazarene University around the age of 60. During that time, he went on a medical mission trip to Mexico as part of the nursing program. Terri was in the process of initiating the PhD process when she was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer.

In addition to their various degrees in education, the couple worked in a variety of places in Boise and Nampa. Roy worked for many years at Health and Welfare for the State of Idaho, and he was an integral part of the Mobile Crisis Unit there upon retirement. Terri worked for many years as a social work professor at Northwest Nazarene University, where she pioneered the Master of Social Work program. She taught master and undergrad classes until she retired.

Both Roy and Terri made a significant impact on those who worked with them. Both were well loved by work associates and students. Their loss has been deeply felt by their family and close friends. They spent most of their adult lives serving God, and they were a blessing to their family, friends, work associates, and the community at large – as well as to several dogs and a few cats that became a big part of their lives. Those who knew Roy and Terri were fortunate indeed. They were beloved by many and are sorely missed - but they are now at peace and where they waited their lifetimes to be.

They are survived by their daughter, Tracee Theriot, Roy’s sister (Marie Elder) and her family, and Terri’s sister (Lesa Edwardson) and her family. Terri’s brother, Donald Angier Jr., passed away a few years prior to her death.

Terri passed away the morning of August 12, 2017. Roy joined her to be with God 5 months later, the morning of January 12, 2018. There will be a memorial service to celebrate the lives of Roy and Terri Theriot.  It will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd. (just south of Fairvew Ave. in Boise). The memorial service is meant to be a celebration of the lives of Joseph Roy and Terri Theriot.

August 4, 2018 would have been Roy and Terri's 40th wedding anniversary. They were together for about 44 years.

Please feel welcome to join us as we celebrate their lives at 2pm on Saturday, August 11, 2018. The service will be followed by a brief reception at the same location.

If you need directions or have questions, please call Cloverdale Funeral Home at (208) 375-2212. Jake Garn or another funeral director can assist.
