Lilly M Sweatt

November 12, 2018

Tribute

Our mother, Lilly Morris Sweatt, went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, November 12, 2018 in Boise, Idaho. She was born August 15, 1933 in McKenzie, Alabama to Lewis E. and Ionie C. (Cole) Morris the third of six children. Mother’s greatest life adventure began September 26, 1951 when at age 18 she married our dad, Lonnie Lomax Sweatt. Dad’s 20-year commitment to the U.S. Air Force would take them to the ends of the earth together.

Immediately after their wedding, Dad whisked Mom off to Cheyenne, Wyoming where their son, Dan was born in June of 1953. Then the family was transferred to Okinawa. In January of 1956 when Mom was 8 months pregnant, they boarded a Navy ship bound for Seattle. On their journey across the sea, the ship hit the tail end of a typhoon and Mom was seasick for 8 days. Upon arrival in Seattle, Dad bought a car and the family crossed the USA in their Chevrolet arriving in Panama City Beach, Florida in February just in time for Mom to give birth to their daughter Mary. 15 months later, the Air Forced summoned the family back to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Cheyenne became home to Mom although their Air Force reassignments would continue for many years.

Mom faced several health issues when they returned to Wyoming. These issues were the catalyst that forced Mom to seek spiritual help when the physicians provided no answers. In January of 1959 Mother found physical, emotional, and spiritual healing when she gave her heart to Jesus. Subsequently, Mother began taking her family to Grace Church of the Nazarene in Cheyenne and faith in Christ became her anchor through the seasons of her life.

Mother was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister, Edna (Morris) Lee, and our dad. She is survived by an older sister, Lucille (Morris) Smith, and three younger brothers, Carl Morris, Clifton Morris, and Clinton Morris all in Alabama; her son, Dan Sweatt, and his wife Johanna of Boise, Idaho and Johanna’s three children – Gary Wilburn, Richelle Lane, and Craig Wilburn; her daughter Dr. Mary McGuire and her husband Chuck of Boise, Idaho, and their children – Cally Meldrum and Sean McGuire. She is also survived by many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends scattered throughout the world.

Mom, you will be sorely missed. Tell Daddy hello from all of us.
