Tribute

Loren L. George 1941-2019
Loren passed away peacefully in his home on February 6, 2019. Loren was born, December 15, 1941 to John and Clara George in Pasco, Washington. His family had a Dairy Farm at their home where he grew up and worked every morning before school and after school. They also grew asparagus, mint, alfalfa and fruit trees. He graduated from Kennewick High School in 1960. He served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1971.
He lived and raised his family in Kennewick most of his life. In his first home he owned, he dug a basement by hand and shovel. He took much pride in his yard and in his garden. He built his first home in 1979, where he also spent every day after work in the large yard and in his beautiful garden until dinner time. He used the excuse to wash dishes by hand every night after dinner instead of using the dishwasher so he could clean the dirt out of nails. He also raised chickens down in the coop next to the pond and cows in the pasture for beef every year.
He was very devoted to his job with the Bureau of Reclamation for 30 years where he worked in Pasco, WA and then commuted to Ephrata, WA, until his job moved his family to Boise, Idaho in 1987. He built two homes in Boise, while still working his full-time job. After taking an early retirement at the age of 52, he built another home in Meridian, Idaho. He still had his passion for working in the yard and growing a garden every season. He grew corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots and his delicious beets that he learned to can and brought to all the family dinner parties. He never missed a chance to watch his grandkids while they were young and always took them to McDonalds. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, fishing and bowling on the Senior League at Westy’s.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara; brothers, Ronald and Richard; ex-wife, Carolyn Booker; niece, Cynthia Gilbert; nephew, Kevin George.
He was survived by his only sister, Dorrene (Robert); son, Tom (Jody); daughter, Wendy (Jodi); six grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Tommy, Jordan, Chase and Jenna; one great grandchild, Addisyn; two sister-in-laws, Ethel and Rita; nieces, Carol, Diane, Debbie and Sheri; nephews, Rob, Rick, Scott and Matt; ex-wife, Jenny Heath.
Loren’s Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 9651 W. Edna St., Boise, Idaho.
