Tribute

Rhoda Aiken, 99, passed away peacefully at Spring Creek Assisted Living facility in Meridian, Idaho on January 23rd 2020.

Rhoda was born April 5th 1920 in Pocatello, Idaho to Henry and Jaretha Culbertson. She was the third oldest of eight children. Her role as big sister changed to more of second mother as she helped raise her younger sibling, Bertha. Rhoda attended Pocatello High School where she met her first love, O.H. (Mitch) Mitchell. She and Mitch were married September 19th 1938. They were eager for a baby right away but God had other plans – Nine years later they were blessed with their first child, Beverly. Another six years after they completed their family with the birth of Joanne. Rhoda and Mitch were married for 47 years before Mitch passed away. Eight years later, Rhoda found love again in O.D. Christopherson and they were married shortly after. They had eleven years together before O.D. passed away. Rhoda filled her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren after that. She struck love for a third and final time with Lee Aiken in 2009. They had one year of bliss before Lee passed away. Shortly after, Rhoda moved to Meridian, Idaho to be closer to her family. She found home at Spring Creek Assisted Living where many caregivers took sweet care of her and became like a second family. While there, Rhoda played pinochle, taught bridge, and enjoyed winning at bingo as well as continuing her love of crocheting ensuring everyone had a blanket. Her family would like to thank all the staff at Spring Creek for the last ten years of love and service to her and making us all feel like family.

In addition to her daughters Beverly Daniel and Joanne (Jonathan) Mielenz; Rhoda is survived by her sister Bertha Holcombe,  three grandchildren Jeffery (Tiffany) Floyd, Jason (Lynda) Bergstrom, and Stephanie (Eric) Mai, as well her three great granddaughters Shayla (Kaden) Moss, Kierra and Kallyn Mai and her precious first great-great grandson, Sawyer Moss. She is proceeded in death by seven of her siblings and her grandson Ryan Bergstrom. The family will be holding a private celebration of life to honor Rhoda’s 100 years in April.

Rhoda was kind yet feisty, sweet and some sour, and the true definition of a matriarch. She was loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed.
