Rich Humpherys

Tribute

Rich was born July 14, 1933 in Boise, ID the first of 5 children born to Rich G. and Evaline Humpherys. He was raised in Horseshoe Bend, Id and attended grade school there and high school in Emmett, ID
Rich quit school to join the Navy in Oct. of 1950 where he served aboard the USS Oriskany until his discharge on 6-29-1954. After returning home he worked various jobs including the Emmett mill and part time work for the Emmett Police Department.
A friend introduced him to the woman who was to become his wife for 63 years. Shirley (Evans). Together they had 2 sons Robert (Stacy) and Randy (Wendy). He is survived by 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Rich began his career with the Idaho State Police in May 1958. Throughout various transfers and promotions, Rich finished his 34 years in law enforcement as Idaho State Police Superintendent in January 1991. Rich was always happiest when he was on the Heckman Ranch at WhiteBird doing his cowboy thing, riding, branding, and protecting the land owner’s property from poachers. He knew everyone up there and they all knew him. It was a very special time for him.
Rich was devoted to his family and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He had a quirky sense of humor and loved to tease. He lived life to the fullest and will never be forgotten.
Rich passed away peacefully on February 7, 2019 at home surrounded by family.
